Byron Bay, Revisited

Friday was a busy day…not that we had an awful lot to do - but we wanted to catch the nightlife in Byron Bay before x-mas. But before we could go to BB, Tommy had to drop by the vaccination centre (if he didn’t take the yellow fever vacc. then no Brazil….) - and since our original plan was to check out Brisbane and do xmas grocery shopping, the schedule looked pretty tight. In addition to the above duties, a lot of time was spent driving…BB is appx 1 hour drive south of Surfers, whilst Brisbane is 1 hr north…if you throw in some traffic, carpark spotting etc…we’re talking at least 3hrs in the car.

Anyways. Somehow we managed to check out Brisbane, shop, eat lunch and then get back in time to buy all the groceries needed. After Tommy made a fast and very delicate dish of pasta and chicken we hit the road and headed to BB (Byron Baby! Byron!). In BB we checked in at the Aquarius, which is a decent place for backpackers…sleeping in a mixed shared room with 7 others costs you 30 AUD (appx.NOK 150). The rest of the evening was spent enjoying the fine nightlife….in other words a lot of loud music, talking to random strangers and trying out the local brew.

summertime!

The next day (which by the way is the offical day for celebrating Festivus!) we hit the beach and met up with Marie and co. After a few hours in the sun Tommy had to drive back to Surfer’s for his last hours at work. I stayed in BB and had more fun :)

enjoying some fine aussie cuisine

Notable things that happened in BB:
*Marie and co. saw a “brown snake” at the beach, appearently the 2nd most posionous snake in the world…
*A woman in the Main Street walked for several seconds “on display” as the wind revealed to everyone that she did not wear underpanties…
*A young man and his father in law had a big argument (almost a fight) in front of everyone at the beach. Round 1 ended with the young guy yelling ” Merry F*%$#^& Xmas” really loud…even though it was quite tragic, most people thought it was hilarious….
